HacknPlan Pricing Changes 2024

Chris Estevez - August 27, 2024

We’re introducing some changes to our pricing plans that will become effective on November 5th. We have stuck to the same prices since the first premium tiers of HacknPlan were released back in 2017, and our goal always was to provide an affordable solution for game developers to manage their projects, from hobbyists to indies to bigger studios. However, given the increase in costs and the current economic situation both globally and particularly in the gaming industry, we have to make some adjustments to make sure we continue to grow and improve our service.

Here is a brief recap of the changes, which will be explained in detail in the next sections of this post:

  • Free tier limitations: Our Personal tier will continue to be free with unlimited users per project, but some features will be moved to the premium tiers:
    • Category customization
    • Design element type customization
    • Dependencies
    • Permissions
    • Card customization
  • Personal Plus: The Personal Plus tier, which offers extra features for individual users, will now have a couple of additional features (Stage customization and Importance Level customization), and its price will be increased to €7 per month or €70 per year. This price increase will be for new subscriptions only, existing customers will get the extra features for the same price they enjoyed.
  • Studio: The Studio tier will remain with the same features (the whole package), but the price will be increased to €9 per seat/month or €90 per seat/year. This price increment will only affect new subscriptions like the Personal Plus tier.

Free tier limitations

As explained before, we are removing some features from the free tiers. These changes will affect all the free accounts, old and new.

Category and design element type customization

Personal free accounts won’t be able to create, modify, or remove categories or design element types from their projects. Note that any customization you did before November 5th won’t be rolled back, but it will require at least one Personal Plus admin account to modify them from then on.

Dependencies

Personal free accounts won’t be able to create, modify or remove dependencies from tasks. They will still be able to see dependencies but will require at least a Personal Plus admin account to manage them.

Permissions

Personal free accounts won’t be able to manage category or feature-based permissions (they will still be able to assign administrators). By default, all users added to a project not part of a Studio workspace or that has at least one Personal Plus admin account will have full-write permissions for all categories and features.

When these changes are effective, all existing permissions for projects not in Studio or that have a Personal Plus team member will be automatically set to default (write permissions for all).

Card customization

Personal free accounts won’t have access to modify the fields included in cards, they will only be able to enable or disable the floating menu.

Personal Plus

The Personal Plus features not only remain intact but also get a few additions: Personal Plus users will be able to customize stages and importance levels, which before were only part of the Studio tier. These features will also be available for existing subscriptions.

After these changes are effective, new Personal Plus subscriptions will cost €7 per month or €70 per year. Existing subscriptions before that date will remain at the same price, including renewals or billing cycle changes (monthly/yearly) until the subscription is canceled.

Studio

The Studio features will remain the same after these changes take place. New Studio subscriptions will cost €9 per user/month or €90 per user/year. Existing subscriptions before that date will remain at the same price, including renewals, billing cycle changes (monthly/yearly) and seat upgrades, until the subscription is canceled.
